Last night, I prayed that I would see God in my day. Just see him. It is so easy for me to get caught up in life that I just miss him. I prayed that I would be less blinded by my daily checklists and see HIM around me.
This morning I would admit I was a bit disappointed when I found out I wasn't going with the team to ministry. I would be accompanying a friend as she painted a wall of a building. I wasn’t terribly excited because I wasn’t able to contribute in any way. I’m not an artist at all. I can’t stay in the lines and my stick figures look awkward, but there I was.
The project was to paint the Jzone Logo on the side of a building. Free hand. For the next few hours, I sat back and watched. What I saw, was absolutely beautiful. God showed me how he is the artist and we are his masterpiece.
Artists see things differently. They can look at a boring blue building and see potential for a beautiful masterpiece. God is like that too. He sees us in our broken, gross, and general icky state and chooses to clean us up and love us unconditionally. He meets us where we are at and just wants to love you regardless of where that is.
Artists pay attention to detail. Every single stroke matters. Without one the painting would not be the same. Every single drop of paint is important. In the same way, our experiences matter. God puts things in our lives to challenge and change us.Without one experience, we wouldn’t be the same. He is completely in control of our circumstances and lives.
Lastly, Meredith put her heart into that painting. God does that in our lives as well. He is not some judgemental God that just sits in heaven criticizing what we do. He loves us beyond what we can imagine. He continually and relentlessly pursues us even though we fail him.
It was amazing to see a boring blue wall become a beautiful piece of artwork that will be a huge blessing to Jzone. What was even more amazing was to see that God revealed himself to me in the last place I was going to look. Our God is alive and all around constantly. We just need to look.

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.
"Christians believe in a God who is a sovereign God who never says "oops." We believe that all of our days are divine strokes on the canvas of our lives by the master artist who certified is skill, his power, and his love in the masterpiece of Calvary. IF you doubt his skill in painting your life, just look at Calvary." John Piper
